Another road rescue
This time it's a baby bird. I found it lying in the curb (actually, my dog found it). I turned around because I'd walked right past it, and then I nearly ended up dragging Heidi (aforementioned dog) right out of her collar. I didn't know what the hell it was at first (you know how freaky baby birds look) but then I walked closer and leaned down and that thing opened its mouth and stretched its neck up and I was like "AAAAUUGHH!" Then I realized it was a bird and I was good.

I don't know how long it was out there baking in the sun, but I got a small cardboard box and constructed a rudimentary nest. Couldn't find any worms in the ground so I fed it some dogfood. I don't think anything's broken and it seems to be doing fine. Then again, the odds of baby birds surviving without their parents is pretty slim. I'll do my best. I don't know if it's a blue jay or a mockingbird. Maybe neither. It's too early to tell.

Go to the store and get you some of that baby food in a jar and some pedialyte. And an eye dropper. That should do ya! Thank you for being a wonderful human being and stopping to help that baby.

That's a good idea, thanks Deddy. The way I see it, I really have no choice in the matter; it's impossible for me to walk away from an animal in need. I think my patron saint must be Saint Francis of Assisi or something.

I couldn't walk past one, either. I'm glad your dog didn't go "Gulp!" When she passed the little bird. *Chuckles* Good luck with the little guy. If he looks like he's starting to fade, you can always kind of "turn him in" to a vets office.

Aw, baby bird. Do you have pictures? :3

I saw a guinea pig running around in front of my apartment complex. I have yet to get him, and I'm worried he has become someone's dinner...

No pictures...this thing's not exactly photogenic. You know how baby birds are until they get their feathers. Like weird, ugly aliens with beaks.

you know... when I read the part about the bird lifting its head with the mouth wide open... I pictured you in classic anime mode rearing back and falling over. XD gl with the bird, you can buy some fishing crawlers from the store but you'll have to grind them up before you feed him them.

It may very well be a starling and in that case you won't be able to find it a rescue place because they're an invasive species :(
