Stardust
Last night I had the good fortune of catching Neil Gaiman's Stardust on one of the movie channels. I was iffy about it at first, but by the end it had woven itself into a very charming story filled with fantastic characters. The plot seemed a bit hurried (naturally, seeing as how it's impossible to cram every literary detail into 120 minutes) , and I know that films rarely do their books justice, so I'm planning to add Stardust to my To Read List. There's always room on my bookshelf for one more fairy tale. They're my favorite.

You will NOT be disappointed. I just read Stardust last month, and it was both charming and very beautiful, and the characters were fantastic. It is very different from the film (in a way less "actiony", as they sort of stressed parts in the movie that were not stressed at all in the book), but I thought the book was far superior. And it reads hella fast, too, I read it in an afternoon.

Awesome, I'm excited about reading it. I hate finishing a whole book in one day, though. Makes me wish I could erase my memory and go back and read it again. There are some books I can re-read until the pages are falling out, though.

I haven't read the book yet.. but I do have it.

I love fairy tale and fantasy book... well SciFi too ^_^ and I was really looking forward to see this movie when I found out it was in the making. I agree, the movie is a bit hurried, but besides that I liked it very much.

I gotta read that book soon.

Oh god, no, those are the worst. I have what I think must be the mass market paperback version...uh, hang on...*runs quick GIS* This one. I think several of his books were released with covers like this.

I saw the movie and didn't liked it, I thought it was too romantic and less fantastic, but it's true that books are way better than movies, so yeah, I'd recomment reading it to get a better idea of it.
Anyway, if you're wondering who the hell I am, I used to be dannath, but I hated my old journal, so I got this one instead.
Also! I was waiting for you to post as I don't have your email adress to mail you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY BENDER!!! email.
So I'm doing it now (horribly late, eek!) and I'm wishing that your years get better and better.
Also, lj seems to have no idea when is your birthday, so maybe I'm wrong. Do correct me if that's the case, but the sentiment is the same.
Lots of hugs and I wanted to give you a little birthday gift, but it wasn't ready on time, sorry for that. I'll compensate it by sending you more hugs!

mm, Stardust the novel is gorgeous. The movie is not as dark as the book (I mean, this is Gaiman we're talking about) but I liked it all the same. It doesn't do it justice, but it does a commendable job about it. No spoilers here, but for me, it was the end of the novel that really made it one of those unforgettable books. This was redone in the movie (again with the darkness aspect) but that was my only real complaint.
